Is my dog too wild for a photoshoot?
**The below photos date back to an “oh my goodness I need to practice” moment right before my first paid photoshoot. I’m personal friends with Brenalee Bernese, so I went over with my camera and was able to use some of her beautiful dogs as models. All of these gems are CKC registered Bernese Mountain Dogs and have some amazing temperaments. :) **
A question a lot of you might have when considering booking a photoshoot that showcases the bond between you and your Fido is “Is my dog worth the headache?” I get it. You’re looking at the wild, rambunctious, no-way-he-could-ever-be-off-leash Fido and knowing it’s just going to be more headache than it’s worth.
He’ll never sit still.
He has to be leashed the whole time.
He’s more interested in the noises around him than your own voice unless you’re on the couch (or you have a treat!).
That’s where….treats, squeaky balls, whistles, and just taking our sweet time comes in.
We wait for the right moment.
We edit out the leash when post-processing.
We let him hear the other noises too, because sometimes that makes his ears perk and he looks oh-so-handsome.
We work with his temperament.
I’ve photographed many dogs that weren’t trained for the camera — my first paid photoshoot had several of them lol! And looking back, to this day I still like those photos! They are portfolio-worthy photos.
Ultimately, at the end of the day, if he really couldn’t focus (iykyk), then the pictures will represent him and his personality; the personality you know and love and bonded with.
Ready to make something amazing? I can’t wait to chat!
